Little tip... up the ISO to 200 on the camera, it allows you to shoot at a slightly faster shutter speed - handy on days when the light isn't so good and on most cameras the difference between 100 and 200 is negligible :)

I never use a tripod with the SLR. One the compact, sometimes, just a small aluminium tabletop one.
